The Best 70s Costume Ideas

If you didn’t grow up in the Seventies, just tune into “The Brady Bunch” or “That 70s show” to get a good feel for the groovy fashion and far out vernacular of the decade. While much of popular culture still had a wholesome feel, recreation drug use and partying was glorified in some circles as the Disco era played on. Dressing up in a 70scostume may be as easy as reaching in to the back of your closet, but if you are a 70s newbie then a retro-inspired ensemble is really not that hard to acquire.

Discos, such as the infamous Studio 54, were the launching pad for celebutantes, wild partying and some downright swinging outfits. Snazzy threads such as silky, partially unbuttoned disco shirts and polyester bell bottom pants might gain you entrance but gold chains and a tuft of exposed chest hair were a guaranteed ticket. The ladies were Le Freak chic in halter dresses and ruffles jumpsuits with strappy metallic heels or tall platformboots. An Afrowas a hot hairstyle among all races as was ironed-straight Cher-style hair.
