Most people either love clowns or have an irrational fear of them.  Who couldn’t resist the happy-go-lucky entertainers of our childhood that made that made us belly laugh with crazy gags and slap stick humor? However, a more subversive culture of clowns is around to scare the stuffing out of you.  The sub-genre of horror films that feature demented clowns comes to mind including flicks such as “Clownhouse” and “Killer Clowns from Outer Space”. Television has also immortalized a few other clowns such as 50’s children’s entertainer, Bozo the Clown, to the more peculiar Krusty the Clown from animated television series, “The Simpsons”.

Whether you like the silly clown costume or the scary clown costume, liven up any party by showing up in an outrageous and over-the-top clown costume.  “Send in the Clowns” with a traditional polka-dotted jumpsuit and pom-pom topped cone hat.  Don’t forget to add oversize clown shoes and crazy clown props for a clown costume that will make everyone smile.  Face paint is such an integral part of a circus clown costume that the techniques are taught in clown college.  Chalk white makeup creates the base for exaggerated smile lines, colorful eyes and rosy red circles for cheeks – add a red rubber ball nose that squeaks for a classic look.  For a scary look, dress as The Joker from the Batman franchise, especially the creepier recent movie, The Dark Night.
